Winter sun

A small selection from some recent excursions to my local lake, Caldecotte.

We’ve had a lot of dull days, and plenty of snow, but occasionally a sunrise on a cold winters day, is just too good not to share.

The morning after Christmas Day; and a great day it turned out to be.

A female Goldeneye, enjoying some much needed sun.

A female Goosander, with her beautiful red head, just behind a dozing male Tufted Duck.

Some wonderfully noisy Canada Geese, as they flew by.

And in contrast, a silent male Mallard.

And Christmas Day, proved just as good, with the sun shining later in the morning.

Two beautiful Siskin stopped feeding long enough for a portrait, against a rare blue sky,

and a Robin, fluffed himself up against the cold, and posed for his portrait.

Aren’t birds just beautiful?

Beautiful images as expected and i love the Robin bigging himself up. My personal favourite though is the composure of the sunrise.

Another great post. Yes, I am always lurking in the background, sorry for the lack of comments.
Now that I know what to call it, I really like the Robin.
Save your money and take a trip over here and we (wife and I) will lead you through Yellowstone and the Tetons in Wyoming. I have references from the local Sheriff as to my sanity or lack thereof. :) All you need is air fare to Salt Lake International, money for hotel and food. The car and driver are on me. I'm also hoping that you forget your 100-400 lens when you return home. ;)

Thanks Andrew. Robins have a knack of looking special, don't they lol

Dale, thank you very much. That is an offer I'm very tempted to take you up on. That would be a wonderful experience. I'll do my best to save. :)

Nice variety of birds! I love the Siskins and the Robin! Are Canada geese as common in the UK as they are here?

holdingmoments said...

Hilke, thank you. The Canada Geese are very common here. At my local lake, at times there are hundreds. I love seeing them, especially when they noisily take to the air.
